Meet and Greet, August 21

5:00-5:25 PM    Welcome for parents of kindergarten students and new families to our district

5:30-6:15 PM    Elementary Meet and Greet (Please feel free to come at a time that works best for you.  This is an open house format.)

  • Meet your child’s homeroom teacher
  • Ask questions about the first day of school and become acclimated to your new classroom
  • Pick up your district calendar (one per family) and fill out any incomplete registration forms
  • Unpack your backpack and pick-up your school supplies purchased through the PTA
  • Sign up for various PTA volunteer opportunities — Stop in the cafeteria to learn about some events planned for this year, sign-up to be a room parent, and check out other opportunities to volunteer. We still have several committees that need your support.

6:15-7:00 PM    Registration and school fee finalization with school office personnel, if needed.

  • Finish any outstanding registration forms indicated during classroom visit
  • Deposit money into your child’s Food Service account (can be done online)
  • Visit with a Durham School Services bus driver representative
  • Visit with school nurse

***New this year, district calendars will be placed in your student’s homeroom for you to pick up.  Please remember, only one district calendar to each Pleasant Valley family.  If you’d like to pay school fees or add money to your students lunch account, this may be done in the commons across from the main office.  Any other registration forms to be turned in, please come to the main office.  Mrs. Ann Harris, our school nurse, will be in her office if you have questions or need to drop off health forms, if you need to drop off prescriptions, please set up an appointment with her, she can be reached at 563-332-0210 or

From the Principal: 

Welcome Back Cody Families!

It is with sincere happiness that I welcome everyone to Cody Elementary for the 2017-2018 school year.  We are excited to get to know our new students as always.  This year we are adding a section of Kindergarten and a section of First grade.

There are some other changes as well that we are excited about.  The Third grade classrooms will be located in the new hallway next to the new library.  Our third section of Kindergarten will be located in the other new hallway next to the library.  Using our new hallways will be a change, but we will adjust smoothly, I’m sure.  We also have a new playground structure thanks to Cody PTA.

I sure hope everyone is ready to come back recharged and inspired to learn.  Many teachers have been learning great things this summer.  Kindergarten and First grade teachers will implement a new phonics program called Fundations in their classes.  Fourth and Fifth grade teachers along with our ELP and Special Education teacher attended a training on Math Best Practices.  This focuses on using the Habits of Mind and Habits of Interaction as a structure for learning.  Sixth grade will continue to employ these Habits and help support 4th and 5th grades as well.  There have also been technology trainings over the summer that many teachers have attended.  The learning never stops!!!

Pick Up/Drop Off

We  have some changes to A.M. arrival. Car riders will wait in the cafeteria until the first bus arrives.  At that time, all students will go out to the playground, unless you are eating breakfast.  In the past, students have been allowed to go to their lockers before going to the playground.  This will change this year due to the increase of students in the hallways.  All students will use the doors at the end of the kindergarten hallway to enter the playground.  And don’t forget to remind yourself of the pick up/drop off procedures at Cody. Click here for the parking lot procedures.

Food Service

Want to know what’s for lunch today?  Click here for breakfast and lunch menus!  You can also download an app to keep track of it all on your phone!  Plus, our site lets you look at the nutritional values of every item on our healthy menus!  Pretty cool!

School Meal Prices:
Elementary Breakfast $1.65
Junior High & High School Breakfast $1.80
Elementary Lunch $2.45
Junior High Lunch $2.55
High School Lunch $2.85-$3.10

To add money via credit card to your student’s food service account, use your Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Communications for low food service balances will be sent to the parent/guardian email address(es) that the school has on file. Click here for a reminder about our meal charge policy, including how much students can charge and when you’ll be alerted for having a negative balance.

Free and Reduced Application:  New this year, we are introducing an online free and reduced application process to reduce paper and save you time.  Please see the below instructions on beginning your student’s 2017-2018 Free and Reduced Application.

  • To begin your Online free and reduced application, please log into your Parent Portal Account here.  (If you do not have an account please call our Administration Center at 563-332-5550.)
    • Please note that Free and Reduced application must be accessed from the Portal website link above; it is not available through the Portal Mobile App.
  • Once logged in, click the link for “Applications/Forms” on the left
  • Select “Click to start meal benefit application”

After your application has been processed you will receive notification in your parent portal inbox.

Snacks: If you’re bringing in a treat for a classroom, remember the Spartan Safe Snack list.  We only allow items on the list in our classrooms to make sure all treats are safe for all students.  We appreciate your help to keep all our students healthy!

Strive for Less Than Five

This year, the Pleasant Valley Community School District is teaming up with school districts across the Quad Cities and the United Way to increase attendance.  We encourage you to watch this one-minute video below about the mission and importance of having students at school every day.  We’re hoping you’ll help us break attendance records on Wednesday, August 30.  We’re challenging every student to come to school to get the year started off right!

In an emergency, PV will send you notices via text and phone calls.  Information you give us during registration automatically signs you up for emergency phone calls.  But, if you want texts, too, you need to sign up. Click here to manage your preferences. Sign in and click on the Contacts Tab.  Your name will pop up, then click edit and make sure your information is correct!  (can’t remember your sign in?  Click “forgot password” on the home page.  If you have any questions, contact our Communications Director at

Pleasant Valley schools send out an email every week with important dates, events, and community opportunities.  It’s called the #SpartanNation and it’s unique to every school.  Make sure you check your in-boxes every Friday afternoon, so you don’t miss a thing!

To assure that your email provider will not block email communications, please add this email address to your safe senders list: Pleasant Valley will not give email lists to anyone outside of the district. If you do not have access to email, information is available in the school office.

Run with Carl

Support the Pleasant Valley Educational Foundation and Run with Carl.  The 5k, 5 mile and kids run is Labor Day, September 4, 2017 at the Life Fitness Center.  The races start at 7:30am and every dollar raised from registration fees goes directly to the PVEF and the Bettendorf Community Schools Foundation.  The PVEF provides scholarships for seniors, awarding 80 scholarships in 2017.  Six PVHS seniors received scholarships in 2017 thanks to proceeds from Run with Carl!
