From the Principal

Welcome Back,

I would like to welcome the Freshmen Class of 2021 to the start of their high school experience. This year’s new class will be experiencing the same controlled construction chaos along with other students. The main entrance disappeared in June and the new front addition is rapidly taking shape. Currently, students should be enjoying the new commons when they return from Christmas Break. The tower and new auxiliary gym will be completed by August 2018. Parking is guaranteed for all juniors and seniors requesting a tag. Sophomore parking tags will be allocated after the first two weeks of school. This will allow administration time to assure that all of the upper classmen requests have been filled. Priority will be given to those sophomore students involved in a fall sport or activity. New sophomore parking tags will be issued through the fall, winter and spring seasons.

Drop-off and pick-up at the HS will continue to be problematic but it is our hope that by eliminating parking at the front of the school there will be more room. A drop-off lane with a painted safety egress will define an area for students to open their passenger door without fear of being hit by exiting cars behind them. Click on the map below, which map should help provide a visual explaining the teacher, student and contractor parking.

The High School Open House is scheduled for grades 9-12 on Monday, August 21, 2017 from 7:00-9:00pm. Our staff collective focus over the past three years has been to answer four key questions; what do we want all students to know? How do we know that they know it? What do we do if they do know it? And what do we do if they do not know it? Come to the Open House and hear the answers to all of these questions! If either you or your student logs onto the district website and selects PVHS, there is a plethora information for many courses. These websites include daily homework, answer keys, assignment calendars, and additional help sites.

Please be reminded that for the past decade, PVHS has followed an early-out schedule for grades 10-12 only. On Wednesday, August 23, 2017, grades 10-12 will be released at 12:05pm. Upper classmen riding the bus will be offered lunch. 9th grade students will have lunch by themselves with an opportunity to explore the meal selections without being ridiculed by older students wanting to get through the line and eat. We will also conduct a rotating activity schedule that includes study skills, an activity fair, building “hunt” and a reflective letter to themselves about their first day.

Welcome to the start of a new and exciting 2017-18 school year,

Mike Zimmer

Strive for Less Than Five

Run with Carl

Support the Pleasant Valley Educational Foundation and Run with Carl.  The 5k, 5 mile and kids run is Labor Day, September 4, 2017 at the Life Fitness Center.  The races start at 7:30am and every dollar raised from registration fees goes directly to the PVEF and the Bettendorf Community Schools Foundation.  The PVEF provides scholarships for seniors, awarding 80 scholarships in 2017.  Six PVHS seniors received scholarships in 2017 thanks to proceeds from Run with Carl!
