Book Fair Volunteers: Hopewell PTA is looking for volunteers to help set up and tear down the Scholastic Book Fair on Thursday, March 1st (3:30-7:00 p.m.) and Tuesday, March 6th (3:30-7:00 p.m.).  Scholastic Book Fair is a great opportunity to earn books for our teachers and library when you purchase books for your child(ren).  Setting up and tearing down the book fair takes a lot of volunteers!  Please click here to sign up for a slot.  Don’t forget to stop by and check out the great books when you are at Hopewell for conferences!  Contact Kelly Reiter with questions: kloreiter@yahoo.com

Visiting Author:  Every other year, Pleasant Valley Elementary Schools have had the unique opportunity to host a visiting author sponsored by the school district and PTAs. This year we are pleased to announce Sarah Weeks, a well-known children’s author, will be at Hopewell on Thursday, April 19th. Presentations will take place in each grade level. Sarah Weeks will be signing books for the students. As in the past, you will need to purchase your own book and send the book in to be autographed. Mrs. Bachtel has compiled a list of grade level books that could be used to choose a book for your child.  Click here to view the list and select the best book for your reader!

Childcare During Conferences: The PTA is pleased to provide childcare during conferences next week!  Babysitters will be available on Tuesday, February 27th and Thursday, March 1st from 3:15 – 8:15 p.m. in the gymnasium.  As you arrive for conferences, take your child(ren) to the gym and sign them in, and then out when you are done.

2018-19 Course Registration Materials: All junior high students have received 2018-2019 course registration material.  Course registration needs to be completed using the Student/Parent Portal. The window for online course registration through the  portal is now open and will remain open until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, February 26th.  Please note: Course registration is a separate process from the online registration process (updating of demographic information and paying 18-19 fees) which will occur in the spring. Questions? Call PVJH Counseling Office at 563-332-0202.

Pennies for Patients Collection: Have you got lots of coins you want to get rid of?  Bring them to PVJH on March 1st!  On Thursday, March 1st, the PVJH student council students will be collecting spare change from drivers picking up students after school.  All donations go towards the PVJH Pennies for Patients fundraising drive that benefits The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

2019 European Summer Trip: In June of 2019, PVHS students will traverse Europe for 17 days to see the sights, experience the culture, learn the history, and appreciate the beauty of this diverse world.  The trip will consist of visiting London, Paris, Switzerland, and Italy.  This trip is open to any PVHS student and enrollment is on a first-come, first-serve basis.    This is the 3rd time this tour has been run and it has been very popular in the past.  Deadline to enroll has been extended to Friday, March 9th but spots are filling fast so enroll early before all the seats are gone.  Contact Miss Risius for more further information:  risiusstephanie@pleasval.k12.ia.us

Yearbook Purchasing:  There is still time to purchase a yearbook for this year!  Yearbooks are $70 and must be pre-ordered. Please send a check made out to PVHS to the main office with “yearbook” in the memo.  If you aren’t sure if you’ve already placed your pre-order, you can easily check by logging onto the parent portal, clicking on “fees” and looking for a $70 fee from earlier in the year. You can also call the high school at 563.332.5151 for verification.

Senior Yearbook Photos:  Senior photos for the yearbook are due Friday, March 16th and must be submitted ONLINE  to our yearbook site. Simply go to images.jostens.com  and enter login id 409123612. Then, just follow the instructions for uploading your photo. 

Senior Yearbook Vanity Ads: Consider the gift of a senior vanity ad in the yearbook for your child! Bettendorf Optimist Club Oratorical Contest: The Bettendorf Optimist Club invites students to enter their oratorical contest!  Students compete by giving a speech for a chance to win a cash prize, as well as a potential spot in the state and even international scholarship contest.  Contest will take place on Thursday, March 8th at 6:00 p.m. at Asbury Methodist Church.  For more information, click here.
