Intro to Microbits Program by PVHS Women in STEM: The PVHS Women in STEM club is proud to provide a free after school opportunity for 5th & 6th Grade students called “Intro to Microbits”. The “Intro to Microbits” course is a continuation of the “Hour of Code” program run by Women in STEM during the fall semester. The activities will be similar in nature, but more open-ended to encourage independent thinking among participants. This class is geared toward ALL students and every ability level is welcome – no past experience is necessary. The program will meet at each elementary school on April 4th from 1:30-3:00 p.m. For more information, please click here to reference the handout or contact Megan Vandersee (vanderseemegan@pleasval.k12.ia.us). Click here to register your student online by April 1st. The program is limited to 30 students at each elementary school.

Visiting Author Book Signing:  Sarah Weeks will be at Bridgeview on Monday, April 16, 2018, and event sponsored by the Bridgeview PTA. If you would like your student to have a book autographed by the author, you will need to bring one of her books into the library. All books should be brought to the library by Wednesday, April 11thClick here for the list of suggested books and more information.

Barnstormer Arsenal Baseball 10U Tryouts:  The Barnstormer Arsenal 10U Baseball Team will be holding open tryouts TOMORROW, Saturday, March 31st at 3:00 p.m. at the Barnstormer Baseball Club fields on Devils Glen Road.  Click here for full details and RSVP information.

Team Assistants needed for PV Girls Soccer Season:  The High School Girls Soccer program is looking for some young team assistants (girls 4th-8th grade) to help out around the sidelines at home games during the season this spring.  Responsibilities may include collecting balls, giving water to players,  and other various sideline duties. This is a great opportunity for future Spartans that would like to be a part of the Girls soccer program.   The program is looking to have at least 2-4 girls per home game. If this is something you think your Spartan soccer player would be interested in, please email Mr. Keaton Connell-  connellkeaton@pleasval.k12.ia.us and he will send you the dates of all the home games and spots that are available. Any and all help is sincerely appreciated!  GO SPARTANS!

Spring Picture Orders Due April 9th:  Student picture proof envelopes were sent home this week.  You may order online or return your order envelope to the school office by Monday,   April 9th.  All orders will be sent in on that day.  You may order online after the deadline date, but a late fee may apply.  If you choose to not place an order, you do not need to send anything back to school.  If you have any questions regarding your picture, you may call the school at 332-0210 or contact HR Imaging at 815-433-1766, or online at hrimaging.com.

Next Cody PTA Meeting: Please mark your calendar for the next PTA meeting on April 10th. The Cody PTA will be voting on next year’s board and budget. There will also discussion on outstanding committees. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Free childcare is provided.

Cody Walk-a-Thon:  Time to start setting the course for Cody’s Walk-a-Thon!  This year’s event is May 11th and to make it successful, sponsors are needed. Please click here to view the sponsorship ask letter and information, and be sure to share it with your friends!

Happy Joe’s Fundraiser Night Cancelled: The Happy Joe’s fundraiser night scheduled for April 12th is cancelled.

Skating PartyJoin the fun at the Hopewell skating party on Thursday, April 5th, from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at Eldridge Skate Park!   Admission is $3 and skate rental is $1.50.  Spectators are free.

Coffee with the PrincipalPlease join Mr. Welch and other Hopewell parents for Dunn Brothers coffee, casual conversations, and questions on Friday, April 6th, 8:30-9:00 a.m. in the cafeteria. Hope you can make it!

Hopewell VIP Day:  Hopewell will celebrate VIP-Grandparents Day from 1:00 to 2:45 p.m. on April 20, 2018. Check in is 1:00 to 1:20 p.m.  This is different than what is printed on the district calendar and consistent to last year’s VIP day.  Again this year VIP Day will follow a structure that features a rotating schedule. VIP’s will be able to split their time with more than one student. Hopewell is expecting around one thousand people in the building and parking lot and your patience will be greatly appreciated.  Please note there will not be food at this event.  Click here for the official invitation and for the registration form that is due no later than April 13th!

April PTA Meeting Date Change:  The PTA meeting scheduled for Thursday, April 19th at 6:30 p.m. has been moved to Tuesday, April 17th at 6:30 p.m. so that families can enjoy Fine Arts Night at Hopewell.  Thanks!

JA Spring Volunteers:  Junior Achievement is looking for Spring volunteers for the following Pleasant View classrooms:  Megan Radosevich’s- 1st Grade; Kim Scheerer’s- 3rd Grade.  Typically, JA volunteers commit to teaching 5-7 classes that are 30-45 minutes long.  They can work with the teachers to determine how often they want to have the class (normally 1 per week).  JA will provide you with all the classroom materials at no cost, and they include step-by-step instructions on how to teach each lesson.  Volunteers may work alone or in pairs.  First-time volunteers will complete a 1 hour training session before entering the classroom. More information can be found here: http://jaheartland.org/volunteers/.

Visiting Author Book Signing: This year PV is pleased to announce Sarah Weeks, a well-known children’s author, will be at Pleasant View on Tuesday, April 17th.  New this year, you will need to purchase your own book and send it in to be autographed. Please send your book to school sometime between March 26th and April 10th.  A letter was sent home this week with an autograph form for you to return with your book.  Click here to view the letter, and the list of suggested books for purchase. PVHS PTA Right After Prom Donations: Pleasant Valley High School PTA is very proud to sponsor one of the best after-prom parties in the area and typically hosts nearly 500 students each year. This success is a direct credit to the generous support received from the community and parents.
