Spartan Safe Snack List Update: The Pleasant Valley School Community makes student health and wellness a top priority! In addition to maintaining high standards for providing safe and healthy lunches, we believe that snacks consumed at school also impact good nutrition and the development of lifelong healthy eating habits. As a result, we have been collaborating on exciting changes to the Spartan Safe Snack List for the 2018-19 school year.

In addition to our commitment to snacks that are nut-free, we have adjusted our snack list to better align with the USDA Smart Snack Standards. Click here to find the list of food and beverages that may be shared in the classroom along with frequently asked questions and answers.  This list will be enforced at all elementary schools starting next fall.  Thank you for joining us in making our schools the healthiest they can be so students can do their best work.  Please contact the district or your school nurse if you have questions or feedback.

Hopewell

Announcements

School Supply Order:  Order your school supplies for the 2018-19 school year NOW!  The summer gets busy and it’s so easy to forget!  Order deadline is Friday, June 24th.  Go to http://www.educationalproducts.com/shoppacks and enter code HOP064.

PTA Meeting, Thursday, May 17th: Please join us at the final PTA meeting of this school year.  We will meet on Thursday, May 17th, at 6:30 pm in the library.  We will approve next year’s PTA Board, budget, and Mrs. Zupancic will share information about the new safe snack list.  Hope you can make it!

Hopewell Flag Ceremony: On Friday, May 18th at 10:30 a.m. on the front lawn, Hopewell will celebrate the American Flag and our active and retired service members. This tradition of reflection and honor is in partnership with the American Legion, Le Claire. Hopewell families are invited to join for this celebration. Service members, active and retired, are invited to attend. If you are a current or previous service member and you are planning to attend, please call 563.332.0250 to RSVP.

Free Skating Party: On Thursday, May 31st, 6-8 pm, Hopewell has earned a free skating party. This party was earned because Hopewell averaged over 100 paid skaters per party at the 3 scheduled skate parties this school year.  Skating is free, skate rental is $1.50.  Come out and celebrate an awesome school year with your friends!

Lost And Found: “Where is my hooded sweatshirt?”  “I can’t find my other glove!”  If this sounds familiar, please come and check out Hopewell’s lost and found table.  Lost and found items will be available for pick-up through Friday, May 18th (Flag Ceremony Day).  Unclaimed items will be donated.

Request for Hopewell Harvest Silent Auction Items: No, it’s not fall yet, but plans are already underway for Hopewell Harvest 2018!  The PTA Silent Auction committee is hard at work coming up with basket ideas and seeking out donations from the local community. If you are interested in joining the committee or have an item you would like to donate to next fall’s Harvest, please contact Marie Feehan at feehanmarie@gmail.com. The committee will turn anything you donate into a fabulous basket. Items desired include:

  • Monetary donations
  • Gift cards to local businesses
  • Tickets to local events
  • Items to go into the baskets such as toys, games, etc.
  • Empty baskets or containers that can be used for assembling baskets

Hopewell Harvest is our school’s largest fundraiser of the year and the Silent Auction is an important part of the event. This year, Harvest brought in over $26,000 for programs such as the Visiting Artist/Visiting Author, the Variety Show and the Family Fun Nights. The money was also used to fill teacher grant requests for items such as ukuleles and beat blocks for the music room, class books for 3rd and 6th grades, and craft supplies for Kindergarten.

It’s important we have your support in order to make this event a success. Please Contact Marie Feehan at feehanmarie@gmail.com by May 11th with your donation intents. Remember, there is no Walk-a-Thon this year, so a silent auction donation is a great way to support the Hopewell PTA this spring!

PTA Committee Chair Openings 2018-19: The following committee chair positions are open for the 2018-19 school year.  If you are interested in any of these positions, please contact your current PTA President, Sara Sierk (sarasierk@hotmail.com) or your incoming PTA President, Allison McCauley (crabbyinc@gmail.com).  If no one fills these positions we will not be able to provide Hopewell with some wonderful opportunities.  Please consider sharing your time! Thank you!
