Early Dismissal Reminder:  There is an Early Out on Wednesday, December 5th.  Please plan accordingly.

Make-Up Snow Day: The day missed on Monday, November 26 due to weather conditions will be made up on Wednesday, June 5, 2019.

The Pulse: Read Bridgeview PTA’s November 30th issue of The Pulse here.

Bridgeview Online Store: The online store closes this SUNDAY, DEC 2nd. Click here to shop last minute!

3rd-6th Grade Hour of Code: The PVHS Women in STEM club is proud to provide a free after school opportunity for 3rd-6th Grade students called “Hour of Code”. The Hour of Code is a brief introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics of computer science. This class will nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity in ways that will inspire them to keep learning. This class is geared toward ALL students and every ability level is welcome – no past experience is necessary. We will meet at each elementary school on December 5th from 1:30-3:00pm. For more information, please click here or contact Megan Bildner (bildnermegan@pleasval.k12.ia.us). Please use this link to register your 3rd-6th grade student online by December 2nd. The program is limited to 30 students at each elementary school. First priority will be given to students who have not participated in Hour of Code previously. You will receive confirmation of your student’s enrollment on December 3rd.

Bridgeview Hat, Scarf, Glove, and Mitten Tree: Bridgeview will be collecting winter items for families in need through December 14th.  The tree will be located in the lobby, so please feel free to help “decorate” the giving tree to help the community!

Strive for Less Than 5: Students who have 1.5 days absent or less through Tuesday, November 28th, have received a gift card from Chick Fil-A  for a free kids meal. This incentive was a donation by Chick Fil-A  to promote and reinforce strong attendance towards our “Strive for less than 5” goal. We certainly appreciate family efforts to have students at school on time (in their classroom and ready to learn at 8:30 AM) as we “Strive for less than 5” absences this school year.

Winter Parking Procedures: Please make sure to plan accordingly for winter weather and gear to have students ready to quickly exit their vehicles. Remember for all drivers to adhere to our parking lot procedures (linked here). Last, please remind students to have practice healthy habits, especially good hand-washing with soap and water, during the flu season. Thanks for your review of these goals and procedures.

WINTER PROGRAM, DECEMBER 6:    Cody will be having two performances for the Winter Program again this year.  Due to the amazing number of family and friends who have attended in previous years, it has become necessary to offer two performance times.  Cody will use the following system to reduce the number of audience members in a given performance and therefore reduce the wait time and increase the seating availability. Cody will alternate which half of the alphabet goes first every year.

  • Friends and family members of students whose last name begins with letters L – Z will attend the morning performance at 9:00 am.  Doors will open at 8:30am.
  • Friends and family members of students whose last name begins with letters A – K will attend the afternoon performance at 1:00 pm.  Doors will open at 12:30pm.

Some things to keep in mind for this event:

  • Bus lane must be kept clear at ALL times for both busses and possible emergency vehicles.
  • Busses arrive between 8:10am and 8:20 am to drop off students for the day.  They begin lining up for dismissal at around 2:50 pm.
  • Lunch and recess routines will be finishing right up until 1:00 pm.

Parking for Winter Program: The west parking lot and the playground blacktop will be open for parking.  NO parking in the drop off / pick up lane. There is also NO Parking on East side of building due to construction. To view map on where to enter building for winter program click here.

Reading Incentive~We mustache you to read this!  What a success!  We reached our November circulation goal in the library.  Thanks to everyone for marking your recommended books with mustaches for all to check out!  Special thanks to Mr. Mendelin for involving us in this reading incentive.  Also, thanks to those who participated in “No Shave November” as a fun way to also support this reading incentive.

Donuts with Dad: The Cody PTA will be hosting Donuts with Dad on Friday, December 7. Your child and a special guest are invited to attend. Doors will not open until 7:45 am. Please plan accordingly. Thank you!

Cody Spelling Bee:The Cody Spelling Bee will be held on Tuesday, January 8th, 2019 at 3:30pm in the library.  Students in 3rd-6th grade are allowed to participate and the winner will represent Cody in the regional spelling bee at Augustana College on Saturday, March 2nd, 2019.  Stop in the library or office for a permission form and a list of words to study.

Lost and Found: Please check lost and found table for items your student may be missing, it’s located in main hallway by drinking fountain.  Any items left will be donated to Goodwill after winter break.

Cody PTA Meeting: The next PTA meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 11 at 8:30 a.m.

Hopewell Harvest Success: The Hopewell Harvest bills have been paid and all deposits have been made. Drumroll please…this year we reached a new record. Hopewell Harvest raised $28,661.21!! This is over $3,000 more than what was brought in at last year’s event. Absolutely amazing!

A HUGE THANK YOU to all those who donated, volunteered and attended Hopewell Harvest. YOU made this event a success and make our elementary school great! This money will be used for things such as the visiting Author and Artist, Winter Program decorations, the Variety Show and Family Fun Nights. It is used for special programs such as the Hour of Code and supplemental birthday book purchases. In addition, every teacher will receive $100 for classroom supplies and can also apply for a grant if they have other needs throughout the school year. There are a lot of things needed at Hopewell and this money makes it possible.  Thank you again for your support! Hopewell Harvest is a great event for our kids and our school and we couldn’t have done it without you!

Socks of Love” Project: Pleasant View has a wonderful history of caring for others in so many ways.  We have done this over the years as a staff and as a whole school with wonderful support from families. This year, Pleasant View’s Culture and Climate committee, along with the PTA, have decided to once again partner with King’s Harvest in Davenport to help the homeless and less fortunate in our area.  You might remember our successful laundry pod project from last year for King’s Harvest.  This year Pleasant View would like help with collecting items listed below, and assembling “Socks of Love.”  The donated items will be assembled as care packages for those in need.

A brief explanation for this exciting project will take place during Character Circles on Friday, November 30th, and the collection of items will begin on Monday, December 3rd.  All items will be due by December 13th.  (Each teacher will have a box for his/her room to collect items in.)  December 17th will be the assembling day.  Our teachers will sign-up for a time slot to bring their class down to the lobby to help assemble the “Socks of Love”.  These will be handed out at King’s Harvest later in December and through the winter months.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. There will be opportunities for parents volunteer on December 17th.  Additional information about this opportunity will be sent in the near future.
