Bonanza Raffle Tickets:  Bridgeview Bonanza Raffle Tickets are coming home today with your student!  Please help your student sell at least 20 to help the PTA surpass their goal!

Bridgeview Health Screenings: Bridgeview’s health screenings will take place on September 24th and 25th, 2018 during scheduled PE classes (Click here to access the full schedule). If you would like to decline these screenings, please notify the health office in writing. The students will be screened for the following:

  1. Height and weight – all students
  2. Vision – grades 1st, 3rd and 5th. (Kindergarten will be screened in January).
  3. Blood Pressure – grade 6th.

The AEA will conduct hearing screenings for students in grades K-2, 5th and all new students to the district October 17, 2017. If any health concerns are identified you will be notified and referred to your doctor. These screenings should not take the place of regular health visits with your physician. Please contact Joette Strobbe with any concerns.

3rd Grade Hour of Code: The PVHS Women in STEM club is proud to provide a free after school opportunity for 3rd Grade students called “Hour of Code”. The Hour of Code is a brief introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics of computer science. This class will nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity in ways that will inspire them to keep learning. This class is geared toward ALL students and every ability level is welcome – no past experience is necessary. We will meet at each elementary school on October 3rd from 1:30-3:00pm. For more information, please reference the handout or contact Megan Bildner (bildnermegan@pleasval.k12.ia.us). Please use this link to register your 3rd grade student online by September 30th. The program is limited to 30 students at each elementary school. You will receive confirmation of your student’s enrollment on October 1st.  Click here for the official handout.

The Hour of Code is a brief introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics of computer science. This class will nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity in ways that will inspire them to keep learning. Skating Party:  Join the fun at the Hopewell skating party on ThursdaySeptember 27th, from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at Eldridge Skate Park!   Admission is $3 and skate rental is $1.50.  Spectators are free.

Hopewell Harvest Volunteers Still Needed: Help is still needed for Set up, Food, Cake Walk, Funky Mart, and clean up. Sign up for a 45-minute shift by clicking here:  

  • Sign up to help run your classroom game through your room parent if not already filled!
  • High School and Junior High age kids are encouraged to volunteer! Contact Lara Dague at daguefamily1998@gmail.com and she will assign them where needed—we need the Jr. High and High School students to help the classroom volunteers run the games successfully!

Hopewell Harvest Donations Still Needed: Harvest is only two weeks away! Please send your donations to the school office as soon as you can so we know how much we have before the big night. Exception: Baked items. Please bring those to the office the day of Harvest. We need lots of:

  • Nut free candy
  • 16 or 20 oz. Pop
  • Trinkets for game prizes
  • Baked Goods for the cake walk (if nut-free, please label as such)

Mornings with Mom:  Mornings with Mom is one week away!  If you have not turned in your order form, it’s not too late, please get it in on Monday.  You may purchase your donut/beverage tickets at the door next Friday but a wait in line is likely.  ***6th Grade Parents – some help is still needed!

Pleasant View Fall Fest:  Please click here to VOLUNTEER for this fun fundraising event on Friday, October 5. This family-friendly carnival is the main fundraising event for the Pleasant View PTA. 100% of the money raised goes directly to the teachers. The PTA needs YOU to make Fall Fest a success!  The event also needs candy donations.  Please consider donating a bag of peanut-free candy for prizes.  Drop your bag in the large wrapped gift box marked “Fall Fest Candy” in the school lobby.  Please see a list of peanut-free candy below for ideas.

Genesis Flu Shot Clinic Help NeededThe Genesis Flu Shot Clinic is scheduled for Monday October 8th.  Nurse Hanson needs some help comforting students that day.  If you‘re able to help that morning, please sign up.

Counselor Lunch Groups: This year, the Pleasant View Counselor will be conducting grade level lunch groups in which all students are able to participate.  These groups will give students the opportunity to communicate with other students while at the same time learning new life skills and building friendships.  One of the target goals for these groups is to help students build positive peer relationships.  Students will not miss their recess by being a part of a lunch group.  If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact Keith Cavanagh at cavanaghk@pleasval.k12.ia.us or by calling the school at (563) 332-5575

Lunch Visits FAQ:  Each day Pleasant View has many parents and special visitors joining their child or children at Pleasant View for lunch. This is absolutely an ok thing to do at Pleasant View. All visitors need to check-in with the office staff and receive a visitor’s badge. Anyone who joins their child for lunch needs to be aware of our cafeteria procedures for visitors. Home Football Game Reminders to parents/students: Please note:  Backpacks are NOT allowed in the stadium by students/visitors. NO outside drinks will be allowed into the stadium.

PVHS Conference Information: PVHS will be using the PTC Fast Online Scheduling program for Parent-Teacher conferences this year. Scheduling window opens Monday, September 24th at 6:00p.m. and will stay open until conferences on Thursday, October 4th. Click here to access scheduling instructions and information.

Senior Financial Aid/Scholarship Night: PVHS is sponsoring a Financial Aid/Scholarship Night on Monday, September 24th, at 6:30 p.m. in the high school theatre!  The program is being offered to seniors and their parents to provide information concerning federal and state financial aid programs.  A financial aid representative from Iowa College Access Network (ICAN) will be the main speaker for the program which will last approximately one hour.  Discussion will focus on types of funding and the application process.   A representative from the Pleasant Valley Education Foundation will also share information on scholarships.  After the program has concluded, Jostens will be in the cafeteria to share cap and gown/graduation information.

Help with College Essay Writing: High school seniors who would like assistance writing college essays may attend an essay writing workshop during all lunches on Wednesday, September 26th.  Students should quickly grab a lunch (or bring their own) and come to the large conference room in the counseling office.

QC College Fair: The annual Quad Cities College Fair is being held Monday, October 8th on the St. Ambrose campusClick here for full details and registration information!

PVHS September Lunch and Learn:  The September Business Lunch & Learn has been changed to October 10th, 11:30-1:05. Register online by clicking here.

PSAT/NMSQT: The PSAT/NMSQT will be administered on Wednesday, October 10th.  This test is for 11th grade students who wish to take a practice SAT.  Students who score in the top 1% nationally are considered for competition in the National Merit Scholarship Program.  There is no fee this year, but space is limited to 75 students who sign up prior to October 3rd.  Students are to register and pick up the PSAT Student Guide in the Counseling Office.

PTA Reflections Program:  PVCSD is excited to announce the 2018-2019 Reflections theme “Heroes Around Me.”  Rules and regulations can be found on the Iowa PTA website (rules and regulations).  Students may start working on their projects in the categories literature, dance, visual arts, photography, music composition, and film production. Entries will be due October 24th and 25th. More details to follow soon!

PV Trap Team:  PLEASE NOTE DATE CHANGE!  MARK YOUR CALENDARS!  For those interested in joining the PV Trap Team, there will be a Learn to Shoot on Sunday, September 30th from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Registration will begin at noon.  For more information, please contact Kris (563-949-7122 OR kristinhwehrman@gmail.com).  Informational sheets can also be found in the main offices at the junior high and high school.

Community Opportunities

WIU-QC/Leathernecks Chess Club Chess Tournament: WIU-QC and the Leathernecks Chess Club are sponsoring a chess tournament for students in the local area on November 10th!  Registration is $10 and includes pizza for lunch and light breakfast refreshments in the morning.
