  • Bonanza Raffle Ticket Sales: Encourage your student to sell as many tickets as possible and remind them that the grade that sells the most will get an awesome prize!

Crime Stoppers Raffle:  Crime Stoppers of the Quad Cities will be at the Sophomore and Varsity Football games tonight selling raffle tickets to win a 2003 Mustang Convertible.  Tickets are $10.00 for one or $20.00 for 3.   Money supports school safety programs like the new P3 Campus app recently implemented in the district.  Click here for the official flyer!

Elementary Wellness Healthy Habits Calendars and Logs:  The Elementary PE team will continue to send home the monthly Healthy Habits calendars for students in K through 2nd grades this year.  It is a district expectation that this is completed and returned the first school day of the month.  Students in 3rd through 6th will have Healthy Habits Activity Log to fill in this year.  Suggestions will be provided for each calendar however, please feel free to substitute activities/choices and record that choice.  Each student should complete at least 20 activities each month.  Please contact your PE teacher if you have questions.

PTA Reflections: PVCSD is kicking off the 2018-2019 PTA Reflections program with the theme “Heroes Around Me”! Categories include literature, photography, visual arts, film production, music composition, and dance. Reflection entries will be picked up at each school on these dates: Tuesday October 23rd and Wednesday October 24th from 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. by your Reflections Chair. You must click here and use this student entry form (please do not use the entry form on the website). The student entry form needs to filled out entirely and signed by both the student and the parent/guardian. For additional information and rules/regulations for each category, click here.

6th Grade Choir: The Pleasant Valley Community School District offers a 6th Grade Choir to all 6th grade students in the district beginning Wednesday, October 17th. 6th Grade Choir provides students with an opportunity to participate in a large group choral ensemble, explore their singing voice, and sing a wide variety of music. Grandparents’ or Special Guests’ Day 2018: Cody is pleased to announce that Grandparent / Special Guest Day will be held in the afternoon on October 12, 2018.  All grandparents and special guest are welcome from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m.  The afternoon will be spent in your grandchild’s/special guest’s classroom.  If you have multiple students you may visit their classrooms at your leisure.

Quest meets at Cody on Wednesday afternoons from 3-4 pm in the art/science rooms beginning Oct. 3 (meeting 1:30 – 3 pm on early out days). Volunteers Needed for Flu Clinic: The Genesis Flu-Free Quad Cities program will be coming to Hopewell Elementary school on Wednesday, October 10 (information below). Nurse Kim Zupancic is looking for parent volunteers between 9:00-11:30 a.m. to assist with transporting students from their classrooms and handing out stickers. Please email Nurse Zupancic if you are able to assist with this important event at zupancickim@pleasval.k12.ia.us.

Hopewell Harvest Packets DueHarvest is one week away! Avoid long ticket lines the night of Harvest and pre-order your tickets by Wednesday, October 3rd. All pre-ordered tickets will be sent home with your youngest child the week of October 1st. Also, if your Hopewell student sells 20 or more raffle tickets by Wednesday, they will receive the collectible Hopewell Harvest magnet!

Harvest volunteers, candy, pop and baked goods NEEDED: Hopewell PTA needs help from all Hopewell families to make this Hopewell Harvest a success. Can you help with one or more of these requests?

  • Sign up to run your child’s classroom game for a 45 minute shift through your room parent. All game slots must be filled or the game will be cancelled.
  • Volunteers are still needed to help with Food, Funky Mart and Cake Walk. Sign up by clicking here.
  • NEEDED: More candy, pop and trinkets for game prizes. Turn them into the office any day next week—the earlier the better.
  • ALSO NEEDED: Baked good donations for the cake walk! Please drop these off in the office anytime on Friday, October 3rd!

Lunch Visits FAQ:  Each day we have many parents and special visitors joining their child or children at Pleasant View for lunch. This is absolutely an ok thing to do at Pleasant View. All visitors need to check-in with the office staff and receive a visitor’s badge. Anyone who joins their child for lunch needs to be aware of our cafeteria procedures for visitors. Counselor Lunch Groups: This year, the Pleasant View Counselor will be conducting grade level lunch groups in which all students are able to participate.  These groups will give students the opportunity to communicate with other students while at the same time learning new life skills and building friendships.  One of the target goals for these groups is to help students build positive peer relationships.  Students will not miss their recess by being a part of a lunch group.  If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact Keith Cavanagh at cavanaghk@pleasval.k12.ia.us or by calling the school at (563) 332-5575

 Pleasant View Fall Fest:  Please click here to VOLUNTEER for this fun fundraising event on Friday, October 5. This family-friendly carnival is the main fundraising event for the Pleasant View PTA. 100% of the money raised goes directly to the teachers. The PTA needs YOU to make Fall Fest a success!  The event also needs candy donations.  Please consider donating a bag of peanut-free candy for prizes.  Drop your bag in the large wrapped gift box marked “Fall Fest Candy” in the school lobby.  Please see a list of peanut-free candy below for ideas.

Community Opportunities

Genesis Flu-Free Quad Cities Program: In October, Genesis will offer FREE seasonal flu vaccines to PV students in grades K-6. Click here to access the consent forms that will also come home with students next week.  Forms should be returned if you would like your child to receive a free flu vaccine.

Conferences, October 11 & 16:  Again this year, PVJH will be scheduling conferences online!  The system will open at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, October 3rd, 2018. Unlike Elementary conferences, which are scheduled for 15-20 minutes, PVJH will use a schedule for conferences that run 5 minutes long in order to allow enough opportunities for parents to meet with their teachers.  Many teachers have 125-150 students they see throughout the day, so it is important to give parents the opportunity to sign up.  You will receive a separate eNews on Monday, October 1st that will have information and directions regarding the PTC Fast Online Scheduling system.  You will receive an additional eNews when the scheduling window opens on Wednesday, October 3rd.

Home Football Game Reminders to parents/students: Please note:  For Safety and security precautions, backpacks are NOT allowed in the stadium by students/visitors. In addition, NO outside drinks will be allowed into the stadium.

Crime Stoppers Raffle:  Crime Stoppers of the Quad Cities will be at the Sophomore and Varsity Football games tonight selling raffle tickets to win a 2003 Mustang Convertible.  Tickets are $10.00 for one or $20.00 for 3.   Money supports school safety programs like the new P3 Campus app recently implemented in the district.  Click here for the official flyer!

PTA Reflections: PVCSD is kicking off the 2018-2019 PTA Reflections program with the theme “Heroes Around Me”! Categories include literature, photography, visual arts, film production, music composition, and dance. Reflection entries will be picked up at each school on these dates: Tuesday October 23rd and Wednesday October 24th from 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. by your Reflections Chair. You must click here and use this student entry form (please do not use the entry form on the website). The student entry form needs to filled out entirely and signed by both the student and the parent/guardian. For additional information and rules/regulations for each category, click here.

Important Announcement: At the conclusion of Pleasant Valley High School’s ALICE training, a new security protocol was recommended by law enforcement to reduce the number of visits to the Main Office. All visitors will be asked to use the intercom system to identify who they are and state the purpose of their visit. Those needing to only drop something off will be asked to mark the item with a provided sticky note or marker and place it on a receiving table in the entrance vestibule. A receptionist will retrieve the item from the table and ensure that it is picked-up by the student.

Parents of Senior Students: Help your student get an early start on scholarship applications for next year!  Ask your students if they have checked out the scholarship information page on the PVHS counseling website.  There are a few scholarships listed under “Other Scholarships” with due dates coming up within the next week.  The scholarship information page will be updated as the Counseling Office receives information about new scholarships.

High School Volunteers Needed for Bridgeview Bonanza: Calling all High Schoolers!  The Bridgeview Bonanza needs high school volunteers to help put on their event!  Click here for more details and to sign up.
