Student Summer Opportunities

The end of the school year is quickly approaching and there are many activities your student can get involved in to stay busy while school is out of session!  Below is a list of opportunities for a variety of age levels (labeled with who can participate) to fill their summer with fun and continued learning!  All opportunities are outside of the PVCSD system and are throughout the community.

More opportunities may be added to this list and will be updated on this post. Be sure to check periodically so you don’t miss something your student might love!

 

212 STEAM Labs Summer Camps

  • 212 STEAM Labs has summer camps for all ages and guarantee they will be fun, highly hands on, interactive, and a great way to learn new hobbies and interests! All classes are taught by certified teachers/retired teachers in the area.  Click here to learn about their opportunities

Augustana Boys and Girls Basketball Camps

  • Boys Camps – Get your 2nd – 11th grade basketball player set for the summer and enroll them in the Boys Grey Giovanine Basketball Camp at Augustana College! Click here for details!
  • Girls Camps – If basketball is your athlete’s favorite sport, get them involved in the 2nd – 11th grade girls Mark Beinborn Basketball Camp at Augustana College! Click here to learn more!

Figge Art Museum Summer Classes

  • Fridays at the Figge – Give your young artist the chance to hone their skills this summer! Students in grades K – 2nd or 3rd – 5th can participate in this program.  Click here for all the details!
  • Art in the Middle – The Figge wants to work with you middle schooler and give them five days and five ways they can explore art! Classes work on a variety of artistic skills and are intended for students in 6th – 8th  Click here to learn more!

Iowa Department of Human Rights Youth Summit

  • Join the Iowa Department of Human Rights at their Annual Human Rights Youth Summit!  This is a fun filled day that allows students to obtain tools of knowledge to put in their “backpack,” such as knowing their rights, making a difference in their community, words that matter, and more!  This is a FREE event for Iowa’s young adults in high school or college, sponsored by Grand View University with lunch provided, on August 8th at the Grand View University Student Center.  Click here to get all the details and to sign up!

     

Mississippi Bend AEA Kid University and College for Kids

One Eighty – Faith Through Hoops Basketball Camp

  • Join Quad Cities non-profit One Eighty and University of Iowa basketball standout, Mike Gesell, for a basketball camp this summer!  One Eighty is a community non-profit that works closely with area schools to serve the needs of kids to prevent cycles of poverty, addictions, and crisis.  Come to this camp and learn new skills, while helping the community!  Click here for full details.

Pioneer Village Young Pioneers Day Camps

  • Encourage your child to explore, learn about nature, and make lots of new friends by participating in the Young Pioneers Day Camps with Pioneer Village! There are week long sessions throughout June, July, and August for students 6-12 years old.  Click here to get more information on this opportunity!

Putnam Museum Summer Camps

  • There are TONS of opportunities for your student to have a summer full of fun and learning at the Putnam Museum! Click here to learn about their camps ranging from Harry Potter Camp, to Survival Camp, to Young Meteorologists Camp, to Anyone Can Cook Camp, and many more! (offered for a variety of age ranges, info available in link above)

Quad City Area Young Writer’s Camp

  • Is your student looking for an opportunity to explore and create more personal writing? Have them join the Young Writer’s Camp taking place at St. Ambrose University!  Students will spend the week learning about a variety of creative techniques and developing a community of fellow writers.  Click here for full details!

Quad City Engineering and Science Council Engineering Camps

  • Registration is now openfor the 10th annual QCESC Engineering Kids 1 Day Camps, held July 23- July 27, 2018 at the Putnam Museum and Science Center in Davenport.  The camp is a collaboration between the QCESC, the Putnam Museum and the Iowa State University College of Engineering, who design and lead the camp.  Each of the one day camps will include three, fun educational hand-on activities including LEGO robotics with challenges for various student experience levels.  Details and registration available by clicking here or register online by clicking here!

Shine On, Inc. Summer Theatre Camps

  • Shine On, Inc. is offering two, all-inclusive summer theatre workshops for individuals who are chronologically OR developmentally between the ages of 6-12. Individuals both with and without disabilities are encouraged to register!  Shine On, Inc. is in need of both participants and volunteers to accompany participants throughout the workshop.  Click here to learn how to get involved!

St. Ambrose Health Careers Adventure Camp

St. Ambrose Engineering Boot Camp

  • Register your young engineer for the St. Ambrose University Engineering Boot Camp and give them the chance to explore engineering fields in depth with hands on projects in multiple disciplines! Click here for more information and registration!

St. Ambrose Library Digital Film Summer Camp

  • Give your entering 6th – 8th grade student the opportunity to learn all about digital filmmaking! Students will work on story boarding, script writing, filming, editing and much more.  Click here for full details on the camp!

Western Illinois QC Campus Summer Youth Programs

  • Math on the Mississippi – Dive into the world of Math with this camp for 4th-6th graders and 6th-8th graders! Participants will explore STEM related topics and have engaging projects and discussions about how they relate to the real world.  Click here for more information!
  • Muggles in a Wizard’s World – Explore the Harry Potter series through literature, writing, art, and science with the Muggles in a Wizard’s World camp! Must be a Harry Potter lover and in 5th – 7th grade to participate.  Click here for full details!
  • Words and Music: The Art of Songwriting – Does your student love music and want to learn more about creating their own? Then The Art of Songwriting is the program for them!  This program is for 9th-12th graders who want to learn the basics of song structure, rhyme, lyric writing, and more.  Click here for program information!
  • STEAM in the 21st Century – Your 8th-10th grade student will love this engaging hands-on commuter summer program where they will explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math in a variety of projects! Click here to learn more about this opportunity!

Western Illinois University Women’s Basketball Camp

  • The Western Illinois University Women’s Basketball program is offering a basketball camp to incoming 5th-9th grade students! Alma College Summer Camps
