Fidgets and Pop-Its and Cards oh my!: Please know that our teachers at Cody Elementary believe that students need opportunities for sensory feedback. All grade level teachers are creating spaces called “Refueling Stations” in their classrooms for kids to utilize sensory items in order to support social, emotional and behavioral wellbeing. Teachers have ordered sensory items to keep in their Refueling Stations.
There are situations in some classrooms where students are bringing personal items to school such as fidgets, pop-its and Pokemon cards. In some classes, these types of items are interfering with learning. Students are trading them and are distracted by them and there are hurt feelings between children. Because there is a range in the amount of distraction this is causing, teachers are making decisions about the level of acceptance allowed with fidgets in their class. You may receive notice from your child’s teacher that these items are no longer allowed in their class. I know many teachers have specific plans for certain students and their need for access to sensory items. Thank you for helping us keep the focus on learning and not on how many pop its we can bring to school.
Also be aware, there is information in our Elementary Student/Parent Handbook 2021-2022 on page 13 about personal property:
The school district's property and liability insurance policy does not cover loss, theft, or destruction of personal property of students. All personal property items brought to school are the responsibility of the student. The student's parent/guardian should check with their homeowner's insurance policy to provide coverage, if desired, in the event of a loss, theft, or destruction of a student's personal property.
Halloween Parties will be at the end of the day on Friday, October 29. We will limit in-class visitors to the two PTA room parents. However, all families are invited to our outside parade at 2:10pm – weather permitting. As a reminder, please have your child choose a costume that brings out the best in them. No weapons or particularly gory costumes. We can't wait to see your creativity!
Elementary Winter Program Announcement: We are excited to share our plans for our elementary musicians this winter. We will be delaying our traditional, all-school program to the Spring. We know our K-6 Winter Programs are well-attended, and we are not yet at the point to fill our elementary gymnasiums with families and friends supporting our students. Look for more information in the Spring regarding an all-school program.
We WILL be holding a 6th Grade Band and 5/6th Grade Chorus Concert at the end of November. On November 29 at 6:00pm, the Bridgeview 6th Grade Band and 5/6th Chorus will perform. Two individuals per family will be able to attend this concert at our gymnasium. These concerts will also be recorded and posted to PV's youtube page and website. Thank you for understanding these changes and we look forward to November's concert and the Spring's all-school program!
