FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Hopewell Harvest Day is here!! I am so looking forward to Harvest that even being in the Dunk Tank seems like a pretty fun thing to do:) Any opportunity to bring the Hopewell Community together is wonderful and Harvest is shaping up to be a dandy. I would be very remiss to not use this forum to say a very big THANK YOU to all the PTA volunteers that have spent so much time organizing this event. It has been truly inspiring to see how passionate these parents are for making Harvest happen for our community. We are always better together and Harvest is a perfect example. See you tonight!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Busing Update:  Parents, we apologize for any delays your child may have experienced on our school buses during the past several weeks. Due to a nationwide driver shortage, we are staffed to just cover our 32 bus routes; currently staffed at 32 drivers. In the event a driver is absent, typically we would assign a substitute driver to cover the route. Due to the staffing shortage, during the past few weeks we have had to schedule a bus to complete two routes which has resulted in delays in communication and bus route timing. When it has been determined that a bus is running 10 minutes late, you will receive an email and text message. At this time, we are onboarding a few new drivers which takes approximately 4 weeks. If you know of someone who would be interested in driving a bus for Durham, please have them contact Kathi at 815-540-9502 or visit durhamschoolservices.com

Stay Home When Sick:  We have seen a high number of students visiting the health office within the first hour of school. As a reminder, a child should be kept home when the child’s illness causes one or more of the following:

·         Elevated temperature (fever defined as >100 degrees will be sent home and can return after fever free for 24 hours without the use of medication)

·         Vomiting and/or diarrhea (can return after 24 hours with no vomiting/diarrhea)

·         Child feels unwell: cough, low grade temp, headache, sore throat, allergies that causes disruption and/or prevents the child from participating comfortably in learning.

·         An acute change in behavior: lethargy, irritability, persistent crying, difficulty breathing, or new rash.

When in doubt please contact your personal health care provider. We appreciate you working with us to promote the health and safety of our PV community.

PTA Reflections: Do you enjoy art, music and dance or have an interest in writing, producing films and taking photos? Then join us and have fun unleashing your inner artist with PTA Reflections! This year’s theme, “I Will Change the World by…” calls for your own unique interpretation through the arts. All PTA Reflections program entries are judged on 3 criteria: Interpretation of Theme (40 points), Creativity (30 points) & Technique (30 points)

Please click this link for information on how to enter, official rules and entry form. Reflections projects are due before school on October 27th and 28th. A Reflections chairperson will be at a PTA table outside the main office of your school those mornings to collect all projects.  For inspiration, please visit the Reflections virtual art gallery and learn more about prizes and scholarships.  Questions? please email: pvreflectionsprogram@gmail.com.

Birthday Invitations: We just love that you want to invite your student's classmates to a party!  Please use the student directory in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal to find addresses for your invitations. If you'd like your student to distribute party invitations at school, we ask that you would kindly invite every girl/boy or whole class.  We thank you in advance for all of the smiling faces!

Spartan Band Mattress Fundraiser: You may have seen the signs; yes this is a real thing!  If you or someone you know is looking to replace a bed in your home, now is the time. We invite you to attend the 3rd Annual PV Band Mattress Fundraiser on Saturday, September 18, from 10am - 5pm in the HS Cafeteria.  Last year's sale was a huge success and all proceeds support the PVHS Band students!  We will have 30+ different styles of brand name mattresses on display for you to try out.  All beds are made to order, have full factory warranties, are available in all sizes, and are priced below retail.  In addition to beds, there will also be luxury pillows and even adjustable power bases!  Delivery & financing is available. ATHLETICS & ACTIVITIES

PV Youth Basketball Coaches: The PV boys basketball coaching staff will be conducting a basketball coaching clinic on Sunday, Oct. 3rd at 7:00 PM in the PVHS main gym.  We will be demonstrating fundamental drills, offensive/defensive principles, and practice plan organization. Plus we can cover anything else of interest to you, such as pressbreak, zone offense, post def/off, etc. We are really excited to see PV Basketball continue to grow through your hard work. The clinic should last until about 8:15 PM.  Come and go whenever it fits into your schedule.   If you have more questions, we will be available for as long as you need that evening. We have not received official gym confirmation yet, but we are planning on having our annual PV AAU basketball tournament on Jan. 15th at PV.   Please check our basketball website at pvspartanbasketball.weebly.com for updated information.  Contact Steve Hillman with any questions.
