#SpartanNation March 4

PVHS #SpartanNation Weekly Announcements

Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress:  After Spring Break, Pleasant Valley Schools will administer the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP). The assessments are aligned with the Iowa Core Standards and will measure both student proficiency and growth in the areas of Math, Reading, Language/Writing and Science.  ISASP is used for state and federal student accountability purposes and to determine if students will qualify for extended learning opportunities. Click here for ISASP dates and schedules.

From the Counseling Office: School counselors provide immediate support for mental health crises and refer students and families to outside agencies when the need is beyond the scope of the license granted by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners. This need is very real: The American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Children's Hospital Association have declared the condition of child and adolescent mental health a national emergency, and the CDC points to a 31% increase in adolescent emergency room visits due to suspected suicide attempts from 2019 to 2020. The National Center for School Mental Health tells us that children and youth are most likely to receive mental health support in schools.

Our goal is to educate our students and staff in the Notice, Connect, Refer protocol. PVHS juniors participated in a Notice, Connect, Refer training in their Career & College Readiness course held either February 25 or March 4. PVHS staff also recently reviewed the protocol at the February 18 in-service. Pleasant Valley High School is proud of our students' reactions in times of crisis this year. We invite families to review the protocol with their students.

Pleasant Valley Educational Foundation Golf Outing:  Join us for the Foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year.  All funds support scholarships for graduating seniors.  Sign up a foursome for a traditional golf outing, become a hole sponsor, or NEW THIS YEAR – play the new Forge putting course with the family!  Learn more here.  Register here.
