Return to Learn - COVID-19 Dashboard Update

District Announcement

The Pleasant Valley Community School District is adjusting the way it communicates positive COVID-19 cases due to the changes in reporting practices from last school year and observations from the first four weeks of school. As of this fall, the Iowa Department of Public Health has adjusted COVID-19 surveillance to follow the influenza model; state case investigation and tracing efforts for COVID-19 now focus on outbreaks and vulnerable populations. The information sent in our notification emails and reported on our dashboard are cases families report to our school nurses. Therefore, we want to provide you with more current information to make informed decisions for your student.

New Dashboard: We encourage you to look at our COVID-19 dashboard located on our Return to Learn website.  Starting September 22, 2021, we will update building-specific case numbers every Monday and Wednesday by noon. Monday’s numbers will include Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of the previous week.  Wednesday numbers will include Monday and Tuesday case numbers of the current week.

Notification Emails:  Elementary families will continue to receive an email when there is a positive case reported by a family in a classroom.  Because our elementary students stay together in one cohort for most of the day, we believe it is necessary to alert families to each case. If you receive more than one letter, that indicates there is more than one case in a classroom.

Secondary students interact with many students throughout the day, whether in a classroom, at lunch, in the hallway during passing times, or during after-school activities.  It is difficult to identify which students may have interaction with a positive case.  Therefore, we will not send emails to Junior High and High School families. Instead, we ask that you view our COVID-19 dashboard.

Thank you for your constant diligence as we work together to keep our students and staff safe.
