Bridgeview 6th Graders got a fantastic treat - a visit from Iowa Congressman Dave Loebsack! The Congressman made a stop here to talk with the students about Congress, what he does, and to learn more about the amazing things these kids and their teachers, Mr. Beausoleil and Mr. Seamer, are doing in their garden.
These 6th grade gardeners just began harvesting the crop planted by last year's 6th graders and have had quite a yield, with fruits and vegetables including strawberries, Brussels sprouts, tomatoes, raspberries, beans, and so much more. This project has been taking place for the last few years, with Mr. Beausoleil and Mr. Seamer using it as part of different units about food systems, plants and the science behind growing, sustainability, and even economics. Students are responsible for planting, watering, monitoring, weeding, and harvesting the crops throughout the seasons. The crop grown is even used in school lunches across different parts of our district!
Thank you so much Congressman Loebsack for taking time with these PVCSD students today, it was a great visit and we look forward to giving you even more veggies to take next time!
