Riverdale Heights Families,

It is just about time to welcome students and staff back from summer vacation! I hope that you have enjoyed your summer break and are ready to get back to school year routines. 

A change in my life over the summer is that I got married on July13th!  With this event, my name has changed from Jennifer Gertson to Jennifer Richardson. This will be a change for everyone to get used to, including me.  

We are thrilled to get the 2019 - 2020 school year underway!  This is your one-stop shop for all things back to school. Enjoy the rest of your summer and we'll see you soon!

Monday, August 19:

Infinite Campus Parent Portal opens to access homeroom teacher assignments.  If you wish to open a parent portal account, please contact Susan Parks at 332-5550, ext. 1004.  Parents of incoming kindergarten students will receive a call on Tuesday, August 13th from the school office indicating their homeroom teacher assignment and assigned staggered start day.

Wednesday, August 21, 2019:  Pleasant Valley Elementary Meet and Greet

  •  5:00-5:25 PM Welcome for parents of kindergarten students and new families to our district

  • 5:30-6:15 PM Elementary Meet and Greet (Please feel free to come at a time that works best for you.  This is an open house format.)

  • Meet your child’s homeroom teacher

    • Ask questions about the first day of school and become acclimated to your new classroom

    • Unpack your backpack and pick-up your school supplies purchased through the PTA

    • Sign up for various PTA volunteer opportunities

  • 6:15-7:00 PM Finalize Registration (if needed)

  • Finish any outstanding registration forms indicated during classroom visit

  • Deposit money into your child’s Food Service account (can be done online)

  • Visit with a Durham School Services bus driver representative for transportation questions

  • Visit with school nurse

Friday, August 23, 2019:  First Day of School

First Day of School 8:30 AM-3:00 PM

  • *Parents of kindergarten students:  Please note your kindergartner will attend either August 23rd, 26th or 27th as you are directed on August 13th.  All kindergarten students will begin regular attendance on Wednesday, August 28th.

Student Safety: 

District safety procedures work to ensure student safety throughout the school day.  Therefore, parents will need to drop students off for the school day at the front office, and will need to sign in and have an appointment with teachers to access the hallways before and after school.  

We want to have a welcoming environment, while keeping students safe.  On your child’s first day, Kindergarten staff will be in the atrium to greet your child the first days of school, walking them to their classrooms.  Staff will also be visible to help 1 - 6 grade children find their classrooms. I appreciate your help in implementing safety procedures from day 1.  

Parking Lot Procedures:

Student Drop Off/Pick Up:  It is important to work collaboratively to make sure students and staff are as safe as possible at all times.  Therefore, we ask all visitors to check in at the office. If you arrive prior to dismissal you will need to wait in the vestibule area to meet your child.  Parents should not head to classrooms, as this is a safety concern. Appointments with faculty should be made in advance for visits before and after school, as teachers often have duties and/or meetings they need to attend to after dismissal.  We closely monitor who is able to access our building and it is important that we all work together to follow safety procedures.

School Meal Prices:

  • Elementary Breakfast $1.65

  • Junior High & High School Breakfast $1.80

  • Elementary Lunch $2.45

  • Junior High Lunch $2.55

  • High School Lunch $2.85-$3.10

You may make a deposit into your student's lunch account at any time by sending cash or check to their building.  You can also add money via credit card to your student’s food service account online through RevTrak by clicking here.   Communications for low food service balances will be sent to the parent/guardian email address(es) that the school has on file. Click here for a reminder about our meal charge policy, including how much students can charge and when you'll be alerted for having a negative balance.

Free and Reduced Application:  Please see the below instructions on beginning your student’s 2019-2020 Free and Reduced Application.

  • To begin your Online free and reduced application, please log into your Parent Portal Account here.  (If you do not have an account please call our Administration Center at 563-332-5550.)

    • Please note that Free and Reduced application must be accessed from the Portal website link above; it is not available through the Portal Mobile App.

  • Once logged in, click the link for “Applications/Forms” on the left

  • Select “Click to start meal benefit application”

After your application has been processed you will receive notification in your parent portal inbox.

Strive for Less Than Five:

The Pleasant Valley Community School District is teaming up with school districts across the Quad Cities and the United Way to increase attendance by participating in the Strive for Less Than Five Challenge!  We encourage you to watch this short video about the mission and the importance of having students at school every day.  We’re hoping you’ll help us keep student attendance high as we head back into the school year!

In an emergency, PV will send you notices via text and phone calls.  Information you give us during registration automatically signs you up for emergency phone calls.  But, if you want texts too, you need to sign up. Pleasant Valley schools send out an email every week with important dates, events, and community opportunities.  It’s called the #SpartanNation and it’s unique to every school. Make sure you check your in-boxes every Friday afternoon, so you don’t miss a thing!

Run with Carl

Support the Pleasant Valley Educational Foundation and Run with Carl on Labor Day, September 2, 2019!  The 5k, 5 mile and kids run takes place at the Life Fitness Center.  The races start at 7:30am and every dollar raised from registration fees goes directly to the PVEF and the Bettendorf Community Schools Foundation.  The PVEF provides scholarships for seniors, awarding 102 scholarships in 2019.  Register NOW at www.runwithcarl.com.
