PVHS Students Sign Registered Apprenticeships with Arconic

PVHS students, Clayton Shelton and Aidan Thoene, reported to work at Arconic on January 18 thanks to Quad City-wide partnerships to address the severe shortage of skilled labor.

On January 13, the two signed registered apprenticeships with the steel manufacturer and will work as CNC Machine Operator apprentices.  Just last spring, Arconic gave PVHS a grant to purchase a CNC Machine to use in its Industrial Technology classes.

Clayton and Aidan will receive expert on-the-job learning from the skilled workers of United Steelworkers Local 105 and IBEW Local 1379.  They'll also continue their formal training course work at Scott Community College.

Through the U.S. Department of Labor, registered apprenticeships are happening all over the country.  As the PV program increases, we will work with the QC Chamber of Commerce to place students not only at Arconic, but other local companies.

Congratulations, Clayton and Aidan!
