SCRA Grants Support PV Students

Community Partnership Graphics

The Pleasant Valley Community School District is pleased to announce that the Scott County Regional Authority has awarded it $90,000 in grants for the 2021 Spring Cycle.

Library Books for Forest Grove Elementary

The first grant will pay for half of the new collection at Forest Grove's Library.  PV's sixth elementary school will open in August of 2021.  It is designed as a four-section building and will initially be built as a two-section elementary building. The single most important goal is to open Forest Grove with a library collection that is  85-90% complete for a two-section size building. Our libraries are at the very center of our teaching and learning so it's important that we reach this goal for our students.  The District will fund the other half of the library project.  The goal is to have 6,000 books ready for check-out when the school opens.

Experimental Airplane Kit

In 2017, Pleasant Valley was introduced to the concept of having students build an airplane to develop technical and behavioral skill sets and to promote aviation as a career and a hobby. Enthusiastic support by school administration has led to rigorous planning for the development of a student club to build an  RV-12iS airplane beginning in Fall 2021. Seeking to create a regional partnership, Bettendorf and North Scott  CSD were also introduced to this unique STEM-based learning opportunity.  Pleasant Valley CSD  has asked the EAA Chapter 75 to become a partner in this project with respect to project planning, technical consultation, and eventually, mentoring teachers and students.  Listen to Director of Secondary Education Mike Zimmer and his team talk about this project below.

The Pleasant Valley Community School District is deeply grateful to the SCRA for investing in our students' future.

The Scott County Regional Authority is a non-profit corporation that provides funding to area educational institutions, government/civic, and not-for-profit organizations.  The funding is generated from gaming receipts received through the Isle Casino Hotel Bettendorf.
