Kate Nelson Terrell Named to Wall of Honor

Kate Nelson Terrell

We proudly announce Kate Nelson Terrell as the recipient of the 2023 Wall of Honor Award. Instituted in 1999, the Wall of Honor Program aims to spotlight and celebrate the distinguished alums of Pleasant Valley High School.

A 1998 graduate of PVHS, Ms. Terrell was a member of the National Honor Society and was involved in numerous extracurricular activities, including writing for the Spartan Shield Student Newspaper, Spartan Assembly, Soccer, and being a key figure in the Horticulture Club. After graduating from PVHS, Terrell attended Iowa State University, majoring in Horticulture Communications and Public Education, where she earned multiple honors, including being placed on the Dean's List and receiving the ISU College of Agriculture Senior Community Service Award.

Kate joined her family business, Wallace's Garden Center, in 2004 as the General Manager and CFO. Now the owner, Wallace's Garden Center has achieved numerous accolades, including the Quad City Business Journal's award for the Top 15 Fastest Growing Companies in 2022, under her leadership. Kate's personal achievements in the industry are numerous, from being a finalist for the Green Profit Young Retailer Award to being recognized as one of the industry's Top 40 Under 40 by the Greenhouse Product News Magazine.

Kate also has an unwavering commitment to community service. Wallace's Garden Center, under her guidance, has continually supported local programs and non-profits. This commitment includes donating over 2,500 poinsettias to frontline healthcare workers during the pandemic and assisting in the 20th Anniversary Memorial for 9/11 at the Leclaire Fire Department.

She has partnered with various organizations, from the Quad City Bonsai Club to Scouts BSA & Girl Scouts of America. Kate's dedication to community upliftment has seen her support initiatives like the Asbury Church Garden Ministry and the Living Lands & Waters through diverse contributions.

The Pleasant Valley Community School District will honor Kate Nelson Terrell with a luncheon, district tour, and class presentation. She will be the guest speaker at the November 9, 2023, National Honor Society Induction.
