The Pleasant Valley High School Boys Swimming Team showcased exceptional talent and determination at the recent Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) State Championships, securing an impressive fourth-place finish. The team's achievements were highlighted by remarkable individual performances and relay victories.
Owen Chiles led the team, clinching first-place finishes in both the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke events. Chiles not only dominated these races but also set a new state record in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 43.42 seconds.
Will Gorman palced third in the 200-yard freestyle and fifth in the 500-yard freestyle. Jamison Gray added to the team's points tally with an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, while Caleb Steward secured a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, contributing to the team's overall success.
In the relay events, Chiles, Gorman, Gray, and Steward proved unbeatable, earning the title of State Champions in both the 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relays.
Capping off an extraordinary championship performance, Owen Chiles was honored with the prestigious title of IHSAA Swimmer of the Year. This award recognizes his outstanding achievements and contributions to the sport over the past season.
