We are proud to celebrate Jack Winslow and Charlie Winslow, PVHS students who earned 1ST PLACE at the Iowa State Automotive Dealers Association High School Skills Contest in Des Moines in December! This statewide competition draws more than 200 students each year and includes two rigorous phases.
First — the written assessment: Earlier this fall, PV had 10 students participate in the written assessment covering all eight ASE certification areas of automotive repair.
Second — the hands on portion: Thanks to their strong performance, PV was named one of the top eight high schools in Iowa invited back for the hands-on portion. Jack and Charlie led the way with the highest scores among PV students.
During the hands-on competition, Jack and Charlie rotated through eight stations, taking measurements, diagnosing faults, and completing repair processes under timed conditions. Their hard work paid off in a big way — marking the first time PV has earned 1st place since participating in the hands-on competition!
As first-place winners, both students received:
- A tool cart with over $2,000 in tools
- A $500 gift card
- A $1,000 scholarship to DMACC’s automotive program
Congratulations to Jack and Charlie, and thank you to Mr. Stutenberg for guiding and supporting our students!
